Saligram

The Saligram (or Shaligram) is a sacred black stone revered in Hinduism as a non-anthropomorphic representation of Lord Vishnu. Found primarily in the Gandaki River in Nepal, especially near Muktinath, these fossilized ammonite stones are millions of years old and believed to embody the divine presence of Vishnu.

Each Saligram is unique, often bearing natural spiral patterns and markings resembling Vishnu’s symbols—like the Sudarshan Chakra, conch, mace, or lotus. Different forms are associated with various incarnations (avatars) of Vishnu, such as NarasimhaVarahaKrishna, and Lakshmi Narayan.
